A sacred honor

A Sacred Honor

It was a beautiful sunrise, with soft clouds soaking up the pastel colors before the sun came up to greet the day.

I photographed the flock from underneath as they reminded us that a different perspective can bring a whole new understanding.

A Cory's shearwater was resting on the beach, looking exhausted. These are pelagic birds, spending most of their lives far out at sea, so finding one stranded on the beach is concerning. And the vulture knew it.

I wasn't sure if this sweet bird had a chance, but I scooped Cory up, wrapped the little one in a towel for warmth, and headed for the Marine Science Center.

Sadly, Cory passed away while I was holding him. For me, it is sacred to be present as a living Being transitions out of the body. To offer warmth, comfort, and love during those final moments is a special honor.

Fly, sweet Cory, fly…..

Wishing you a beautiful day, friends!
