Tales from the lagoon ~ Episode - Dolphins, Pelicans and Ducks, Oh My!

Tales from the lagoon ~ Episode - Dolphins, Pelicans and Ducks, Oh My!

Momma Sarabi, a familiar female dolphin, swam in early this morning and stayed for five hours. About two hours in, two large dolphins appeared — ones I haven’t met before. I’m guessing they were males… they were huge!

They grabbed some snacks and hung out with the flock of pelicans, all gathered in the mosh pit hoping to snag a fleeing mullet. The three dolphins didn’t interact much with each other, but they shared the space and enjoyed a peaceful, cooperative lunch.

The highlight of the day? Everything paused as a momma duck and her three babies swam through, heading toward the mangroves. All the chaos calmed until they were safely past — then the feeding frenzy picked right back up. It was such a sweet moment of kindness in action.

Later, the big boys swam off and a maternity pod rolled in to enjoy the mullet buffet.

Support through teamwork

Mother Nature gifted us another heart-expanding, stunning sunrise! The morning began with a soft pink glow in the east, while the moon snuggled into the clouds, high in the sky to the west.

A chatty flock of birds welcomed the new day — including our lovebird couple, Tux and Trudy, sharing the moment side by side.

As the sun rose, it looked like a colorful hot air balloon lifting into the sky, filling the world with golden orange glow. Pelican Highway joined the surfers using the waves to travel down the beach.

A pelican couple flying together said, “ We are here to remind you the power of teamwork. Supporting each other along the way not only makes the flight easier, it provides emotional support along the way.”

Wishing you a beautiful day friends!

Emotions are your GPS, Ride the waves

Another sunriser and I spotted the pre-dawn light at the same moment and both said, “WOW.” Jetting rays of golden light stretched across the sky — a magical start to the day.

The chatty flock of gulls gathered at the edge of the ocean, but not for long. The bait fish were jumping, and the call to breakfast couldn’t be ignored. Off they flew to join Pelican Highway, where the big birds were already diving in.

Surfers came from every nook and cranny to join the fun, carving the waves while surrounded by pelicans in their morning feast. It was a harmony of humans and wildlife, all dancing with the sea.

Although the full moon was two days ago, this month’s full moon brings the energy clarity and moving forward. The man in the moon said,”Be open to using my very powerful energy to help you follow your hearts desires. "

"Not to worry if your emotions feel overwhelming, they are your inner GPS guiding you. Just like the pelicans and surfers, ride the waves as they come."

Gentle grip is stronger than you think

Fifty shades of grey filled the sky as I walked to the beach. I wasn’t sure we would see the sun rise, but thanks to the breeze blowing the clouds, an opening appeared just in time for the sun to peek out.

After so much rain the past 2 days, I was happy to see Tux and Trudy, along with the flock of laughing gulls and three black skimmers along the shoreline. Surfers arrived from every direction to ride the perfect waves rolling across the shimmering grey ocean.

The full moon wasn't visible this morning, but her presence was still felt. A dragonfly captured my attention shimmering with iridescent light. She brings us the message of transformation and of letting go.

She said, “When I land on a branch, I hold on gently. I don’t grip too tightly, for a gentle grip is all that I need. I’m here to remind you to hold on with ease while allowing change. Trust your wings and the flow.”

Breathe, Relax, Tune into the Love station

Sharing a soothing 70-second sunrise video to start your day with calm.

Soft clouds drifted through a pastel sky, creating a gentle, calming show as the sun rose. Trudy and Tux, our beloved laughing gull couple, were busy declaring their love, while the younger gulls fluttered about in search of breakfast.

Yesterday, I had the great honor of witnessing humanity at its best—just a few kind souls sharing the generosity and love in their hearts to make someone feel deeply loved and supported. If you're not seeing and feeling this, it’s as simple as changing the radio station, tune in to love and compassion, and see it emerge.....it’s all around you.

Wishing you a peaceful, heart-centered day, friends

Savor the sweet moments

Good Morning! After an intense thunderstorm with hail last night, this morning’s calm sunrise was a pleasant way to start the day relaxed.

A chatty flock of laughing gulls flew in, chattering as they watched the sun rise. The pre-dawn sky glowed soft pink, shifting into a stunning blend of gold and rose as the big ball of light greeted the new day. Beautiful waves called the surfers out to play.

Trudy and Tux, our laughing gull lovebirds, were especially romantic this morning, preening, singing, and, of course, sharing sweet smooches. They’re a reminder to slow down and savor the sweet moments tucked into every day.

Relax, trust, Rest and eat your veggies

Wow! This morning’s sunrise felt like we were transported to another world—a large cloud wrapped gently hugged the sun as it rose to greet the day, painting a mysterious, glowing sky. Lines of soft clouds stretched across the horizon like brushstrokes on a canvas.

The calm ocean added to the stillness, bringing a peaceful vibe. Our chatty flock swooped in for just a few moments to say hello before answering the call of breakfast farther down the beach.

Just after sunrise, I spotted a box turtle enjoying her own quiet meal.

She said, “I’m a reminder of patience and longevity. Relax—you’re exactly where you need to be. What’s meant for you will never pass you by."

"If you’re tired or scared, retreat into the safety of your shell and connect with the earth to restore your energy. Then, when you’re ready, take the next step forward with strength and grace. Oh, and remember to eat your veggies."

Exhale and use the tools you have on hand

This morning’s sunrise was lovely—but last night’s sunset? It was a stunning light show. So today, I’m mixing it up and sharing the beauty of yesterday evening.

I didn’t have my wide-angle lens with me, so I improvised with my phone—a gentle reminder that we can always make the most of the tools we have. The sky was filled with dramatic cloud shapes, bathed in golden light streaming adding to the heart opening vibe.

Ocean the dolphin from the previous post, caught mullet near the dock. As he surfaced, the warm glow of the setting sun lit up his breath—a beautiful moment and a reminder to breathe deeply as a way to feel centered and let go of stress.

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode - Table For One

Meet Ocean, a strong, athletic male dolphin I first encountered in 2018. At first, I mistook him for a female dolphin with a similar rope entanglement scar—but over time, his unique energy and presence became unmistakable.

Ocean’s best friend is Whisper, who joined him in the lagoon after Ocean spent about an hour solo...in the company of a dozen hungry pelicans. Having a dolphin buddy makes the fish chase more strategic—while one distracts the pelicans, the other can grab a fish unencumbered. Teamwork at its finest!

BE Curious

The quiet was palpable when I reached the ocean. A calm sea, the absence of a breeze, and glassy, reflective sand offered us a serene start to the day.

Subtle rays of white light jetted from behind a low cloud on the horizon. Eventually, the sun emerged, bringing with it golden warmth and soft illumination.

As I photographed Trudy and Tux—our beloved laughing gull lovebirds—I heard the familiar bark of a black skimmer! I’ve also noticed a young laughing gull observing Trudy and Tux this week. She seems curious, intently watching the two lovebirds. This morning, she said, “I’m here to remind you to be curious as a way to learn.”

Pelican Highway looked especially stunning today, a graceful line of birds gliding southbound above the caramel-colored waves. They shared, “As the waves come, use them to carry you forward. You’ll know when they arrive, because you’ll feel ease in the momentum.”

PS~. If you loved the names Lovey and Dovey, not to worry, I have a Dove couple who will love the names. Stay tuned.....

Love and support to thrive

As I reached the beach this morning, the calm, soothing blue and white sky immediately settled my nervous system. The gentle hues were like a breath for the soul. At the water’s edge, the chatty flock was already gathered—ready for bath time and morning chatter.

Low tide gifted us another outstanding reflective start to the day. The wet sand mirrored the sky’s soft beauty as magnificent clouds floated above. A lone surfer found quiet solace in the waves, the ocean all to himself.

Closer to shore, a pair of laughing gulls captured my heart. They preened side by side, tender and connected. One of them gently regurgitated food for the other—a gesture known as allofeeding, a form of cooperation and care that strengthens bonds. After breakfast, they danced and sang to one another in a loving display of affection.

They said, “We’re here to encourage supporting your flock mates. Cooperation is how we thrive, not just survive. See how far a little love and sharing can take you today.”

Companionship to nourish the soul

The morning began with a soft pink and lavender light show, gradually shifting into a golden-orange glow. It was another one of nature’s masterpieces, perfectly mirrored in the still, wet sand.

Just above the rising sun, a cloud formed in the shape of a person, bringing a message of comfort and support. A gentle reminder, “ You are never alone. Support surrounds you, often in forms you don’t expect.”

Later, in the calm of the lagoon, a solo dolphin and a pelican shared breakfast for two. They said, “We’re here to encourage connection. Slow down, tune in, and notice who shows up when you're present. Companionship, can nourish the soul.”

Turtle Season is here!

Although a few momma turtles have already come ashore to lay their eggs, today, May 1, officially marks the beginning of turtle nesting season.

Please fill in any holes in the sand, knock down sandcastles, and remove beach furniture at night. Keep lights off to prevent disorienting the turtles. Let’s give these incredible moms and eventually hatchlings a clear, safe path as they face the already challenging journey of nesting and returning to the sea.

Together, we can help protect the next generation of sea turtles!

This video is an inspiring Momma turtle who was making her way back to the ocean after laying her eggs.

Stillness to realign

Mother Nature gifted us another reflective morning, with wondrous clouds forming all kinds of whimsical shapes. The wet sand mirrored the sky’s beauty, especially a stunning break in the clouds that looked like a glowing portal.

A chatty flock gathered around the tide pool, joined by several graceful egrets and busy ruddy turnstones.

One laughing gull, basking in a moment of zen, said, “I’m here to encourage you to unplug for a moment. In stillness, your body and mind can shift and realign to support your path forward.”

Send ripples to others with self love

Ahhhh... Mother Nature gifted us a reflective, heart-opening start to the day.The wet sand mirrored the stunning sunlight, and clouds casting back the artful sky like a gorgeous painting.

A chatty flock of laughing gulls, joined by three elegant egrets, gathered at the tide pool for a crabby, teeny sushi breakfast.

Today’s messengers, a ruddy turnstone and a ring-billed gull, chimed in together with the message of the day, encouraging self-love and self-care as a way to send positive ripples outward.

They said, “Even when you can't see it or feel it, the love and care you give yourself shines like a beacon for others. We highly recommend falling deeper in love with yourself, because it radiates outward. The world feels it, it matters, you matter.”

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode - Momma Sarabi -A Mom Dolphin Gets Alone Time

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode - Momma Sarabi -A Mom Dolphin Gets Alone Time

I met Sarabi 4 years ago when her playful calf swam over and started splashing my camera with his tail. She has visited every spring since.

This week, Momma Sarabi came in by herself a few days ago enjoying some solo feeding time, well, except for the flock of pelicans tailing her.

I wondered where her calf was while she had alone time. About an hour later Charley and M, 2 male dolphins came in with young and they all enjoyed fishing, relaxing and snuggling.
