Look for symbiotic relationships

What a difference a day can make! Compare and contrast the dramatic sunrise from yesterday, to the simple beauty of the sunrise today. A blanket of sweet and salty fog enveloped the shoreline.

A wall of clouds on the horizon kept us waiting for the sun to appear. When it did, it filled the sky and water with a deep golden glow.

The flock of gulls flew in at their usual time for bath time and a long chat. One of the 2 loggers brings us the message saying, “I encourage keeping your open heart and wings opens as a way to lift you up.”

After sunrise about a dozen pelicans including Pip the pelican, a solo dolphin, 2 cormorants and a handful of laughing gulls were grabbing breakfast.

They bring the message of symbiosis. They said, “We look for relationships that are mutually beneficial. Success and ease comes with teamwork.”

Wishing you a beautiful day friends!

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode- Bath Time is Infectious!

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode- Bath Time is Infectious!

I spent the day with Eddy, Rusty and Pip the Pelicans. I’d been saying to them for awhile, “You guys need a bath! You are a bit on the stinky side.”

Well it was late afternoon when Rusty decided to start bathing just a few feet away. After a couple minutes Eddy joined in and then Pip! Everyone was getting squeaky clean! I was so excited to see them all bathing because that means they are feeling good.

I am posted mostly about Pip because, well maybe I am biased, but isn’t he gorgeous! Rusty is in there too looking good.

Eddy was funny, he was bathing but he got distracted by seaweed which is his favorite thing to play with. After a little playtime he got back to getting squeaky clean.

After bat time, pip flew the coop while Eddy and Rusty hit the beach to dry their wings. Never a dull moment in the lagoon.

Stay tuned for more tales!

Release self doubt and dive in

The full moon was high in the sky as I walked to the beach.  I felt the wet and and slightly chilly breeze in my lungs.  One Legger led the flock as they flew in to get squeaky clean as the big ball of light came up through a few clouds.

Pelican Highway slammed on the brakes and started diving for snacks from really high in the sky.  They bring us the message of being fully committed.

They said, “To reach our goal, we have to let go for self doubt, fully commit and go for it. We don’t always catch our fish on the first attempt but we know being unwavering with our execution it is the only way to be successful.”

After sunrise more pelicans were in the lagoon.  There must have been 30 floating around grabbing teeny fish.  They said, “Don’t forget to have fun while you are diving for fish. Giggles and laughter is a great way to let go of doubt and it shifts your mood too!”

Wishing you a beautiful day friends!

Courage, Patience, & think outside the box

Ball, Ball, Ball. The gorgeous moon was setting as the sun came up to greet the day. The sun was free from clouds and able to shine big and bright. The waves looked like a mountain range as they rolled toward shore. Pelican Highway looked artful as they floated over the amber waves.

The energy of the full moon can be felt 3 days before and 3 days after. It is asking us to be courageous and let our unique signature shine.

One legger and her flock flew in at the usual time. She was showing off her grace and strength today with her power pose.

After sunrise, at least 20 pelicans and a huge flock of Laughing gulls and Bonaparte gulls were grabbing teeny fish for breakfast.

The pelican and a laughing gull have the message for us today. The pelican said, “The laughing gulls can be a bit annoying trying to steal fish from my beak. They remind me to be patient with others, take a deep breath and turn my head when the little one is getting on my nerves. This way I can be more open to sharing the moment with my feathered friend.”

The gull said, “I’m a very creative bird. I bring the message of finding abundance in creative ways. Thinking of new or out of the box ways of doing life can lead to great abundance and success.”

Wishing you an abundant day friends!

This is Daniko the dolphin grabbing a mullet in the shallows. I've known him since 2018 but he didn’t start engaging with the camera until March 2021.

In the last 6 months he has spent a lot of time just hanging out. Truly an honor to I never take for granted.

Share your unique gifts

The beautiful full snow moon was high in the sky as I walked to the beach. The air was salty and wet which felt really good in my lungs.

A chatty flock of gulls flew in through a layer of fog at their usual time. Tiger the Heermann’s gull, Buddy the herring gull, One Legger, Hook and Peggy were just a few in the hundred birds.

The sun stayed mostly hidden behind the clouds giving us almost a black and white sunrise with a hint of gold, blue and pink. A cloud shaped like a combination of Aladdin, The Hulk and an Angel hovered high in the sky adding to the heart opening vibe.

The full moon is situated in a part of the sky that is illuminating an area that asks us to be brave. The moon said, “I am here to encourage you to share your gifts. You are like a snowflake with a unique signature, now is the time to share your individual imprint with others. Use my energy to break out of your comfort zone.”

An egret came over to say hello. When he got close he gave himself a good shake and said, “If this full moon feels intense or brings up fear, give yourself a shake to let it all go. You see, us dogs and birds know the power of a good shake and how it can keep you in the moment.”

Lastly, Buddy the herring gull and a laughing gull were too cute not to share. They said, “Grab your flock mate and give him/her a hug. We highly recommend opening your heart and wings together, it’s fun to reach for the stars as a team.”

Wishing you an amazing day friends!

Healing takes time

The sunrise was for the birds today! So many birds!

Soft fluffy clouds were floating along at a pretty good pace thanks to the strong wind. When the sun came up to greet the day it sent out light beams through the clouds adding to the awe inspiring beauty.

The flock flew in at their usual time and used the wind to hover in place. Other flocks were flying high above, using the thermals to carry them with ease. The gulls said, “We bring the message of perspective. If you need a fresh view, fly higher of lower to see things differently.”

Tiger the Heermann’s gull, our celebrity bird from Baja was in the flock, also embracing the wind. Buddy the herring gull was showing off his dance moves to a laughing gull. It looked like he was doing the Hokey Pokey. He said, “Dance like no-one is watching.”

After sunrise about 10 pelicans were in the lagoon grabbing snacks. Pip the pelican was among them! He hasn’t been feeling good this week so I was happy to see him fishing. He’s the one who had a filleted sheepshead stuck in his gullet almost a year ago. As you can see, his neck is a bit different then the other pelicans.

He said, “I’ve learned healing takes time. Some days are better than others. I do my best to embrace it all, knowing each day is different. My secret is, I hang with comforting friends and rest to feel better.”

Wishing you a beautiful day friends!

Trust in the timing

Good Morning! With rain in the forecast we had a grey wall of clouds with a sliver of pink at sunrise.

Although it was serene and beautiful, I am sharing a few photos from the past few days bringing the message of being flexible.

Today the messenger is the smallest gull seen over North America, the Bonaparte gull. They are sweet, dainty birds with amazing ability to hover above the water and stick just their back in the water to pick up a fish.

The other day, there was about 6 Bonaparte’s gulls, herrings gulls and laughing gulls bathing and snacking in a tide pool.

The angel looking bird said, “I bring the message of trusting in the timing. Stay grounded but light on your feet so you are able to take action when you feel inspired.”

Tolerance for things that test our patience

WOW! It was a pretty in pink breathtaking kid of sunrise. The ocean looked like glass with a silky sparkling pink sheen with sweet waves rolling toward shore. The soft fluffy clouds soaked up the variety of pastel colors.

The very chatty flock of gulls was waiting when I reached the water’s edge. A mature pelican joined in our bath time showing us the fine art of multitasking. He was able to surf the waves while grabbing snacks.

A laughing gull jumped on that opportunity to score any fish escaping the pelican. The pelican displayed extraordinary patience with the little gull trying to steal little fish out of the pelicans beak. The two of them bring us the message today.

They said, “We bring a message of tolerance for those things that test our patience. ”The pelican said, “I know the little guy is hungry too so I try to be kind. I don’t really want him taking my fish so I just turn my head away rather than being snappy.”

Wishing you a symbiotic day friends!

Think outside the box

Ahhhhh, a reflective sunrise courtesy of low tide. The pastel color show, absence of a breeze and calm ocean made it feel more like a spring day. The mirrored sunrise was stunning.

One Legger and her flock flew in to watch the sunrise together. The gulls bring us a message of being creative. One of the laughing gulls was chatting with an egret, asking him to share his fish. While another one was hiding his feet so he could get special attention like One Legger.

Hiding legs is some serious creativity! The more time I spend with them, the more I see how they think outside the box to survive.

After sunrise 3 moms and their kiddos came in to have breakfast and play. I shared one of the little ones playing with a leaf and showing his baby teeth. Lots to share at a later date.

Wishing you a creative day friends!

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode- Back Flippin’ Babies!

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode- Back Flippin’ Babies!

This morning after sunrise a maternity pod came into the lagoon. It was a couple moms and their calves. The kiddos were really happy and ready to play. They were playing with sticks and mangrove propagules. Propagules look like sticks and are fun to play with.

When they were not playing they were nursing and snuggling with the momma’s. They were even making lots of clicks and whistles!

I think the little were in training or at least enjoying popping straight up out of the water and then backwards making the cutest little splash. I swear they were giggling having so much fun. One of the moms joined in and was showing them how to pop up, lean back and swim a little on her back. The love and joy was infectious.

More to share from these kiddos, so stay tuned!

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode- A Mullet Frenzy

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode- A Mullet Frenzy

The past couple weeks has been a bit crazy with every changing weather and mullet running. More and more pelicans are arriving for the spring. Once we get to March and April then the party really gets going.

I’ve had the great pleasure of seeing lots of flippered friends who came to the lagoon to grab snacks, relax and snuggle. When the mullet are active, the dolphin join in! The dolphin seem to be extra frisky which means they are are jumping out of the water and speeding from here to there in a hot second.

It never gets old!

Celebrate small and big wins

Mother Nature brought us an abundant sunrise with amazing colors, a big golden sun and loads of wildlife.

The fun started with One Legger as she flew in with her flock while the sun came up reflecting on the wet sand. The reflection on the sand was breathtaking.

Pelican Highway was jamming heading southbound. One of the pelicans veered off the highway and headed in to shore at the rest stop.

He walked up on the beach to check out the flock of gulls hanging in a tide pool. He stayed for while bringing us a message. He said, “I’m here to encourage hopping off the busy road of life to rest. Rest is an important tool to restore balance.”

While I was photographing the sun an osprey came out of the water with his catch and hovered above my head screeching. He said, “HEY! I’m here to remind you to celebrate your wins, both small and big. It’s fun to celebrate each other.”

If that wasn’t enough a maternity pod came into the lagoon after sunrise. The babies were extra playful and affectionate with their moms. They said, “Play and snuggles is the best way to bring smiles and shift your mood.”

Wishing you a happy day friends!

Tales from the Lagoon ~Episode - Pip Gives An Update

Tales from the Lagoon ~Episode - Pip Gives An Update

Hi everyone! It’s me Pip the Pelican. If you are just tuning in I survived having a filleted sheepshead fish stuck in my gullet last year. It was a long road to recovery with many bumps along the way.

I was much younger then, I have grown up quite a bit in the last 10 months. I even have grown up feathers now! Shelley says they call that mature. I don’t know what that means but she says I look handsome and I like that.

I have been off galavanting with different flocks of pelicans enjoying life. In the the past week I have visited the lagoon more. I tend to visit when I don’t feel a hundred percent. I like hanging out with Shelley and the dolphins, it’s my safe place, a place to rest and recuperate.

If you can see in the photos, my beak hangs to the side of my neck. I’m not exactly sure why but I know I look different than the other pelicans, especially when I fly. When I am airborne, I hold my head high rather than streamlined. I think being different is cool.

Not to worry, I am doing ok, just a little tired from the cold weather and gusty wind. A little rest on my pole and I’ll be top notch again soon.

Stay tuned for more tales!

Flaunt your authentic self

As I walked to the beach, the fluffy clouds were soaking up the sweet pink and blue colors. Soon pink and purple filled the sky and with it a heart expanding vibe. When the sun came up the sky was enveloped in a deep and intense copper glow.

The flock of gulls flew in before I reached the shore. Laughing gulls, herring gulls and a few skimmers were among the flock.

Both mature and immature herring gulls flocked together for a little grooming time on the shore while the laughing gulls and I hit the chilly water to splash around and get the bugs off.

I asked one of the mature herring gulls for the message today. He said, “Us birds bring the message of being authentic. You see, we are very good at showing off our unique traits while being part of a group.”

“We recommend always honoring your needs and following your heart’s desire. Let the flock give you the safety you need to flaunt your genuine self.”

Step into your confidence

It was a windy and gorgeous sunrise today starting with wispy pink clouds and soft light. The ocean was churning when the flock of chatty gulls flew in for the morning bath time.

One Legger was her very cute self, using the wing to hang in place and pose. Her head is starting to turn black. When their heads turn black they are getting ready for mating season.

She said, “Seasons come and go, I’m her to encourage embracing the current season. Winter is a time of going inward and reflection. Not to worry spring and play is just around the corner.”

After sunrise Big Blue was strutting his stuff. He is very regal and willing to say how he feels. He even yells at the dolphins when they come too close. He said, “Step into your confidence, fluff cup your features and show who you really are.”

He went on to say, “Blue herons bring the message of being grounded. Center yourself by resting deeper into your legs, it makes it easier to be in the moment. Because I am grounded I am present in the moment and able to take action quickly when I feel inspired.”

Fully commit to your heart

Mother Nature brought us a chilly start to the day with a brisk wind from the north. The caller temperatures didn’t stop the wildlife from showing up to enjoy the fruits of the morning.

A huge flock of gulls flew in extra loud and chatty. It never gets old having with my feathered friends.

Skimmers were cruising northbound looking for snacks. They are super cool birds with beautiful red beaks. The lower beak is longer so they can fly and scoop up breakfast. And bonus, they bark like dogs when they talk.

An osprey was using the wind to hover above her breakfast before taking action. She said, “If you want to catch your fish, I believe you have to fully commit. When I dive, I am all in. I don’t always catch my fish but my chances are better if I am in it to win it.”

Wishing you an abundant day friends!

It’s ok to change your mind

As I walked to the beach, huge dark grey clouds floated along courtesy of the chilly breeze. The ocean was calm, shrimp boats lined to the horizon while pelican highway flew southbound.

The cloud cover kept the light low and cozy. The flock of gulls flew in at their usual time feeling frisky. The laughing gull with a split foot came in super close then pulled up his feet to slam on his brakes.

An osprey started to dive for a fish then pulled out of the dive. Thee 2 birds teamed up to bring us the message. They said, “We are here to remind it is ok to change your mind. If something doesn’t feel right in your gut, take a step back and wait for inspiration.”

Wishing you a cozy kind of day friends!

Tales from the lagoon ~ Episode - Ring Around the Camera

The dolphin Daniko and his friend who does’t have a name were in the lagoon hanging out grabbing snacks and chilling. These two hang out together a lot.

The gang of pelicans were there too, Eddy, Pip, Nigel, and a few other Eddy twins.

They were teaming up and going for the fish at the same time in the shallows. I was standing in the deeper water out of their way near Eddy when the unnamed dolphin came and swam in a circle really close. At the end he popped up to say hello. His energy was very playful and silly.

If you click through the photos you can feel the energy and speed. It is always an honor when wildlife chooses to engage and play.
