Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode- A pelican hugs a dolphin
Tales from the lagoon ~ Episode- Pelican Hugs a Dolphin
It all starts with a fish….In this series the pelican and the dolphin go for the same fish at the same time! The dolphin was coming up when the pelican was going down, as the dolphin came up he had the pelicans wing around him like a hug.
In a split second the pelican put his wings back as the dolphins grazed the pelican as he glided by on his back. The dolphin got the fish in this round. Thankfully, no-one was injured. truly an elite athletic sport.
Stay tuned for more tales!

A message from Penny
Hi everyone!
If you haven't met me, my name is Penny, not to be confused with Pippa who had the pokey fish in her gullet.
I met Shelley in 2018, when she fell in love with my adorable belly. It's cute, right?
We had many long chats on the dock. We got along so well, she made me head of Hooman Relations.
She asked me to let you know that she will will be away from the sunrise for a couple days. She said something about pesky life details. I told her when bugs are pesky I give myself a bath and I feel better, she said that wouldn't work this time.
She also said she had more tales from the lagoon to share until she gets back to the sunrise so stay tuned!
PS~ Check out the dolphin snuggles in the previous post

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode- The Snuggle Is Real
Momma Jade, a couple other moms and dolphins of all ages were enjoying a huge cuddle fest today. They really know the power of loving, touching and squeezing.
I’m always surprised when the pelicans hang out in the middle of the cuddles. Sometimes there is some splashing and tail slapping but the pelicans don’t seem to mind. They just hang out in the middle of the loving soaking up the happy vibe.
Stay tuned for more tales!

Go ahead bite off more than you can chew
With wind and clouds, Mother Nature brought us a dramatic sunrise. The ocean was churning with the waves catching the light. Rays of golden light streamed from the clouds giving us a hopeful vibe.
The flock of seagulls flew in at their usual time along with a large flock of ruddy turnstones. One of the Turnstones stopped to say hello with a reminder to take moments through the day to connect.
After sunrise a blue heron was grabbing breakfast. He said, “I’m here to remind you to stay focused on what you want. If you bite off more than you can chew, take your time, savor the moment and enjoy the success.”
Wishing you a beautiful day friends!

Shifting to gratitude
With 25 MPH winds the sunrise was more invigorating than serene. The wind created beautiful textures with the ocean and wet sand. Surprisingly, a small flock of seagulls flew in just before the sun came up. They were brilliant. Using their little feet and wings to hold in place.
They said, “The wind is a part of life, we have learned to embrace it and use it to our advantage. Like Star Trek said, ‘Resistance is futile.’ We agree! We have learned when we relax, the wind becomes a resource.”
On the docks after sunrise a chatty bluebird landed on the mangroves nearby. For me, this is a rare sighting near the river. He brings us the message of gratitude, joy and happiness.
He said, “I’m here to remind you to focus on the positive in your life. You see, your happiness is important. By shifting to gratitude, your mood can shift too. When we are happy, we influence people around us. Join me in spreading the joy.”
Wishing you a happy day!

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode- Quality Time with Momma Jade
I've had the great pleasure of quality time with Momma Jade the past 3 days. if you are just tuning in, I met Jade in 2019. As you can see from the photos she is an amazing athlete.
She has been doing some "Human Whispering" as I call it, coming close to the camera, whooshing by chasing fish. She seems to be giving me more photo ops too!
She loves to tease the pelicans and has taught her babies to follow her lead. I know it might sound mean, but they really are playing more than teasing.
As you can see the pelicans are serious athletes too! So many more stories to share from the pelicans and dolphins.
Stay tuned!

Momma Jade tosses a fish to the pelican, it went flying over the pelican, landing in the water next to him where he scooped it up.
You can see her dorsal fin has a little chunk missing helping to identify her.

Bumps and bruises are part of living
The morning was dark and cozy with a fluffy cloud blanket hovering above the shore. The soft pastel blue and pink color palette added to the sweetness of the morning. The reflection on the wet sand took the shape of a pink heart giving us a heart opening vibe.
Dolphins surfed the perfect waves as they rolled into shore. After sunrise, Pippa, an immature brown pelican and a mature brown pelican flew in together to say hello. Pippa is the one who had the pokey fish stuck in her gullet on March 23. She came right over to say she is doing terrific!
I noticed her feathers looked a bit tattered in places. She said, “That just means I’ve ben living. Part of being in life means I might get a few bumps and bruises. It’s part of the journey. Good news! I’ve become friends with a mature pelican. He's taken me under his wing and is teaching me the ropes. He encourages us to talk with elders for guidance.”
A pod of dolphin came into the lagoon fast and furious to grab snacks. 2 pelicans greeted them and they all went to grab breakfast together. They bring the message of teamwork and collaboration to make the most out of a moment.”
Wishing you a groovy day friends!

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode - A Mother’s Love. Quality Time with Simba.
I met the dolphin I call Simba and his momma Sarabi April 2021. Right from the start Simba was a ham, always being silly and joking around. He would swim circles around my legs and splash with his tail (fluke).
I wasn’t sure he was a boy last year but yesterday he showed me his belly confirming he’s a boy! Male dolphins have slits on their belly that look like an exclamation point and the females look like a division sign.
He and his momma, Sarabi are very close. She is patient, a good teacher and fun too. As I watch them, she gives him space to play and explore but she is never too far. They fish together like pros.
Yesterday they came in at high tide and demonstrated their love with lots of cuddles, kisses and a group hug. The affection was tender and sweet. The whole pod was overflowing with love.

Love, clarity and be bold
Ahhhhh, with a layer of salty fog and soft and swirly clouds the sunrise was extra sweet. The ocean was calm except for perfect waves rolling into shore. A light breeze felt nice against my skin and in my lungs.
The full moon was bright in the sky as it was setting for the day. The flock of seagulls and ruddy turnstones stopped by to say hello while Pelican Highway stopped for snacks just past the waves.
A chatty male cardinal was in a tree as I walked off the beach. When I started talking with the cardinal, he tilted his head and said, “I am here to remind you that everything you do is important. Use your intentions to set in motion what you truly desire. I’m a male cardinal and use my color to stand out, encouraging you to do the same.”
“I’m often associated with loved ones visiting who have passed on. I bring you peace and love, knowing they are safe and sound.”
“I am also associated with relationships and friendships. Together, myself and the full moon are here to help you have clarity about the relationship with yourself and others. Use the power of the moon to help know who to let go of and who to embrace.”
Wishing you a beautiful day friends!
Finding balance within
As the sun came up the powerful fun moon was setting surrounded by soft clouds. Wispy brush strokes created beautiful clouds across the sky adding to the serenity of the morning.
The full moon brings us the message today. This particular full moon is showing us themes and patterns related to relationships and balance in our life.
This moon encourages us to find equilibrium within ourselves. If an area is out of whack, this moon will show you.
Pippa the pelican showed up with her huge puppy dog eyes melting my heart and added to the message. “Lean into your closest flock-mates to steady yourself. Find the love in and around you. Let yourself flow through any emotions that arise, so you can experience more peace.”
Wishing you a beautiful day friends !
Overcoming obstacles to achieve your dreams
I am away from the sunrise today but a Spoonbill and a family of ducks said they wanted to be the messengers for the day.
The spoonbill flew in from across the river to look for snacks.
I was pretty excited since this is the only spoonbill I’ve seen in the cover area I hang out. She was very shy but took a few minutes to say, “Even though I am flying solo today I am bird who likes to flock together, using the power of the community for safety and connection."
"I bring the message of overcoming obstacles to achieve your dreams. The solution will come to you when the time is right.”
The momma duck and her babies agree with the message of community. She said, “We stick together to feel safe. Step by step we find our way using all our resources and skills for success.”
Wishing you a beautiful day friends!

Tales from the Lagoon~ Episode- Synchronicity and Gratitude.
Today is National Dolphin Day and the 5 year anniversary of buying my Canon camera. Talk about synchronicity!
I had no idea back then just how amazing the journey would be. and the magic that would unfold.
I have spent hours standing in the Indian River Lagoon, not just meeting all kinds of wildlife but spending quality time together. Every minute has been memorable.
I am beyond grateful for the dolphins and their connection, my camera and your support! I can't wait to see where the camera takes us over the next year!
Thank You!

Go after what you want
As I walked to the beach I could see the soft clouds soaking up the pretty in pink color. There was a light layer of salty fog filling the air giving the morning a cozy feeling.
The flock of seagulls was extra graceful today, lifting up and back with open arms and feet out. They said, It may feel vulnerable to be this open, but trust us, the rewards are amazing.”
A grackle sowed up, landing on a post near by and looked right at the camera saying, “I am your messenger today.” She went on to say, “I am here to insist listening to your heart and your intuition. I’m a bird that gets things done, reminding you to watch out for distractions so you can stay the course of honoring your heart.”
The seagulls broke into a high speed chase in front of the sun adding to the message, “Go after what you want. Your dreams, goals and desires will thank you for taking action.”
Wishing you a beautiful day friends!

Tales from the lagoon~ Episode- Momma Jade introduces her latest baby!
Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode - Momma Jade! Show Me Your Baby ….Again
I’m pinching myself! Momma Jade who I met in 2019 came into the lagoon today with her latest baby. I’m almost positive this baby is a boy, he’s the dolphin in the earlier post who loves to tease the pelicans.
In 2019 when I met Jade. I had only known her a week when I said, “Momma can I meet your baby?” A few minutes later she came up on my left with baby Ruby on her back. I squealed with excitement! Since that day Jade has been engaging with the camera.
Today when I saw her, I said, “Momma Jade can I meet the newest baby?” This time it took about 40 minutes but she swam from the right, stopped about 15 feet away directly in front of the camera and lifted up with her baby on her back. I squealed again!
I am excited to share the photos with you from April, 29 2019 with Baby Ruby and today April 13, 2022 with baby Topaz or Taz.
Stay tuned for more tales!

Tales from the Lagoon~ Episode- Young Dolphin Teases a Pelican
Momma Jade and her latest kiddo came into the lagoon for snacks , relaxing and play time this morning. This nugget was in a very playful mood today. I’m not completely certain but I think he is a boy. I’m calling him Topaz or Taz for short.
He was playing with a leaf for 15 minutes, then switched to a mangrove seed for a while. The thing that seemed to bring him the most joy was teasing a pelican.
I’ve watched an adult dolphin swim under the pelicans, giving them a little bump from underneath, then teach the younger dolphins to follow and give the birds a little bump. The mood of the pelican, determines if they tolerate the game.
Today the little nugget, Taz, took the game to the next level. Once the mature pelican grabbed the huge fish, Taz pursued the pelican. The pelican would fly a few feet away and just as he was going to try to eat the fish, Taz would bump him, so the pelican would fly a few more feet, start to eat and….boop! This went 8 times before the pelican flew away, frustrated. As he left I swear he said a loud, "Hurumpf!"
Stay tuned for more tales!

Use the waves of energy to propel you forward
Ahhhhhh, a soft and sweet sunrise with a salty breeze that felt extra soothing. The sun came up enveloped in fluffy clouds like a cozy hug. The flock of seagulls, ruddy turnstones and sand pipers flew in together to enjoy bath time.
The seagulls have a couple messages today. As the sun came up they listen up saying, “Open your wings and hearts to let the sunshine in. It will lift your spirits and give you hope for a new day.”
One of the seagulls enjoying bath time wanted to share a message. “First I get the bugs off, then I take a moment to stretch and savor the bug free feeling. This also gives me a chance to wait for inspiration and allow the waves of energy to carry me forward. I find flowing with the waves is easier than swimming against the current.”
After sunrise a dolphin popped out of the water in front of the lighthouse reminding us to be playful. She said, “‘I highly recommend looking for the lighthouses in your life, they are everywhere, you just have to tune in. They can offer guidance and direction on your daily journey.”
Wishing you a groovy day friends!

You are a wealth of fertility
Wow! It was a magical morning with a huge wall of fluffy clouds taking the sharp of flying angels, puppy dogs and so much more. The pre sunrise color show was an amazing pink and lavender that didn’t turn orange until the sun was up and shining bright.
The flock of seagulls was surprisingly large and chatty. Bath time was fun and full of giggles and splashing.
Walking on the boardwalk, leaving the beach I ran into a bunny rabbit was was having breakfast. We locked eyes for several minutes.
She was a soulful being who said, “I’m here to encourage creativity. She went on to say, you are a wealth of fertility, all you have to do is be you. Abundance of all kinds is yours to have, just stop and take in the beauty and love. You see, this moment is creating your next moment, so as you revel in the joy right now, you are creating more joy!” Oh and eat more veggies.
After sunrise, 2 dolphins, Momma Sarabi and Young Simba came to say hello. They were enjoying breakfast when they swam right at the camera to say, “Good Morning Sunshine!” They remind us to take moments to connect and say hello!
Wishing you an amazing day friends!
Tales from the lagoon~ Episode - An Update from Pippa the pelican
Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode- Pippa the Pelican Update
Hi Everyone, Pippa here again. Shelley said all the nice people are asking how I am doing, so here I am to share my progress.
After Shelley shared my story, I played hide a seek for 2 days but I’m back and feeling pretty good. I’m still spending time on the beach in the mangroves and around the dock.
I have ventured into the dolphin lagoon a few times but boy are those mature pelicans rough! And the wall of water from the dolphins should be called the drowning zone not the splash zone. Good thing I like water. Momma Jade is my favorite dolphin, she is very nice to me.
I have a couple of boo boos on my beak that don’t seem to be healing. Shelley keeps saying, “Visualize your beak healing Pippa.” I’m not really sure what that means but I give her the eye melting look and she stops talking.
I visit Shelley every morning after sunrise and evening around 5PM. I also made friends with a very nice fisherman and his grandkids. His kids call me hooky because they took a hook off my neck. I’m still learning a lot, being young and all. Shhhh, don’t tell Shelley, she dons’t know about the hook.
The good news is I’m diving lots, flying great and hanging with a few other pelicans. Oh and I’m a good pooper. I’m getting really strong and big too. I feel loved by so many! Thank you for your well wishes and love.
Stay tuned for more tales from the lagoon!

So many dolphins came in for breakfast after sunrise it was hard to know where to point my camera. Mommas and their kiddos along with a couple of adult males were in attendance.
The first 2 photos are of a dolphin playing with the pelican, tossing up the fish to see who is going to get it. The fish appeared to hang out mid air for the longest few seconds.
The last 2 photos are of a dolphin coming in toward the camera, turning right just a few and a few feet away. I was feeling a little tired this morning and when the dolphin headed my way, the energy was powerful and shifted my mood in an instant. Feeling very grateful!

Know when to take action and when to rest
Mother Nature brought us a simple yet powerful sunrise. With the absence of clouds, the sun was the star of the show along with the flock of seagulls and Ruddy Turnstones. The calm ocean, with no waves, seemed to go on forever, giving us an expansive and serene vibe to the day.
Rootie Tootie, a ruddy turnstone brings us the message of knowing when to fly and when to rest. She said,”I’m a little bird who can fly really fast, the kind that goes 0-60mph in a blink of an eye..…ok, well maybe not 60mph but it feels really fast! I bring the reminder to trust yourself when to take action and when to rest and recharge."
The chatty seagulls bring their usual message of floating above a situation to get a different perspective. They said, "Getting the bird’s eye view really is helpful to seeing things in a new light.”
Wishing you a beautiful day friends!
