Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode -A Mullet in the Gullet

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode -A Mullet in the Gullet

It’s the time of year when the pelicans show off their athletic abilities. They are relentless, following, hovering, and chasing the fish and dolphin for hours. The first pelican is playing peek a boo with a mullet in his gullet.

The dolphin are really skilled at zig zagging to fake out the pelicans.

Sometimes the dolphin will toss a fish to the pelicans or for fun toss a mullet into a floc of pelicans and watch the insanity unfold as they fight for the fish. It is definitely an elite sport!

Presence is the secret to success

The full moon was setting as the sun came up to greet the day. A pretty pink glow filled the sky, surrounding the moon like a soft hug.

A small and chatty flock of ruddy turnstones and laughing gulls flew in just before the sunrise. Today they were joined by an egret grabbing breakfast.

The egret said, “Here is my tip to grabbing your goal. Take a moment to ground into your feet, take a deep breath, then take one step at a time. You see, being fully present in the moment is my secret to success.”

A dolphin causing under the full moon setting said, “If this lunation is feeling intense, I recommend a spontaneous moment of play to lighten things up.”

Wishing you a beautiful day friends!

Earth Day Party

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode- Earth Day Party!

So many dolphin came to celebrate the day! Momma Jade and baby Topaz, Momma Sarabi and Nala, Daniko, Jasper, Whisper and more.

They were joined by 15 pelicans, gusts of cold wind like winter and a rough river. All coming together for a great party!

When the larger pod arrived they came into the lagoon at mach speed chasing a blue fish. It was organized chaos, dolphins everywhere, pelicans falling from the sky like rain as the mullet and bluefish tried to flee the scene.

The dolphin left the bluefish alone after the big chase. The fish was stunned and probably surprised. After a few minutes it swam away with a huge fishtail to tell his school.

Be connected to your flock

WOWIE!  It was raining light this morning as the sun came up streaming light through the clouds on the horizon.  Truly a heart opening sunrise!

The chatty flock of gulls, sandpipers and ruddy turnstones flew in to enjoy the light show.  Waves churned toward shore accompanied by a cool breeze that felt like old man winter was back in town.

The sand pipers flying in perfect formation bring us the message today.  They said, “We tune into to each other to be in synch like a beautiful ballet. We change directions often and really fast which makes being connected to our flock mates very important.”

“We recommend being open to breaking or changing directions. You see, being fluid creates less stress and creates ease.”

Wishing you a beautiful day friends!

Let go of doubt, you got this

The full moon was glowing as it set just before the sunrise, surrounded by the pink glow of first light.

When I reached the beach, a handful of gulls were waiting to say hello.  The sun came up over the ocean lighting up the perfect waves rolling toward shore.

This full moon encourages us to shed the old and step into new beginnings. The man in the moon said, “I am a powerful full moon skin you to focus on personal growth. I’m here to encourage letting go of doubt so you can dive into your deepest desires and passions.”

Wishing you a beautiful day!

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode -1 Mom, 3 kiddos 2019-2024

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode -1 Mom, 3 kiddos 2019-2024

I met Momma Jade in 2019, I remember it like it was yesterday because I said, "Hey momma, can I meet your baby?" A couple minutes later they swam over on my left. The baby who I call Ruby, popped up, landed on her mom and they swam by!

Then in 2022 when she showed up with another youngin' I said, "Hey Momma Jade, can I meet your baby?" A couple minutes later, Jade lifted baby Opal out of the water on her back, presenting her beautiful calf.

This year Jade has another little one with her who I named Topaz. Topaz has the same sweet and playful energy as his/her siblings. This week I said, "Jade! Show me the baby belly!"

Little Topaz popped up with a little back flip and landed on momma showing the belly. I wanted to se the belly so we would know if this one is a boy or girl. I couldn't see the lower belly to know, but I'll ask again and see what happens.

I had no idea in 2018 when I snapped my first dolphin photo that I would be invited into their world and not just meet their kiddos, but get to watch them grow up! Truly an honor.

Hugs improve your mood

As my feet hit the sand I could see dolphins playing out past the waves. It was just at first light when they were kind enough to leap out of a wave.  They bring the message playing.  Go ahead break into a little spontaneous fun to give you a boost.

A small flock still hanging around came to enjoy the pretty in pink sunrise.  With a light layer of salty fog and minimal breeze the morning was cozy and soothing.

The sun came up illuminating Pelican Highway who was enjoying gliding down the shore using the waves to carry them with ease.  They said, “ let the energy carry you, if it feels hard, wait until you feel inspired and glide with the momentum.”

After sunrise, loads of dolphins were enjoying a lot of snuggle time.  They said, “Hug a friend. Physical touch is a great way to improve your mood and boost your immune system.”

Ahhhhhhh, a springtime pretty in pink pre sunrise started the day.  The sun came up looking like an Easter Egg changing the pink to an orange glow to the sky.

A very small but chatty flock of gulls flew in along with a large flock of ruddy turnstones.  It looked like they were dancing on the sunrise.  We all enjoyed bath time, letting the waves wash over our feathers.

A couple ruddy turnstones bring us the message today.  They said, “We recommend taking a moment to stare at your refection, it’s a great way to get clarity. Then you can step forward, one foot in front of the other, nice and easy.”

Wishing you a beautiful day friends!

The love between a momma and baby

Good Morning!

It was a moody bluesy kind of sunrise with a layer of clouds keeping the sun hidden. I thought I'd share a couple sunrise shots from earlier this month along with Momma Jade and her youngin' Topaz.

I've been lucky enough to meet several dolphins moms, Jade is the most affectionate. This is the third calf of hers I have met since 2019, Ruby, Opal and now Topaz.

With all three of them there is always a lot of snuggling, kissing, and sweet connections.

Wishing you a day filled with love!

Mother Nature brought us a swirly pink clouds reflecting on the wet sand.  Soft blue rays jetted into the sky giving us a hopeful vibe.  A light salty breeze added to the ambiance

A flock of gulls flew in with wings open and ready to start the day.    The ocean churned toward shore while the sun came up from behind a small grouping of clouds.

After sunrise I saw a turtle chilling in the lagoon.  She said,  “Slow and steady is my secret to reaching my goal.  Not to worry, what is mean for you will find you. Trust the process, you got this.”

Don’t hit the snooze

With a chilly start the the day the sky was wide open allowing the sun to be the center of attention. The breeze blew the tops of the waves sending salt spray into the air.

About a dozen laughing gulls left said, “We don’t want to head north until it warms up. For now, we will keep our wings and hearts open soaking up the beauty of New Smyrna Beach.”

Pelican highway was cruising southbound over the perfect waves calling to the surfers to come play.  Usually the waves remind us to let them roll over us but today they said, “Sometimes the waves are more like an alarm clock waking us up from a slumber.  We encourage you not to hit the snooze, use the waves to bring you a refreshing new perspective.”

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode - Worm or Snake, It’s what’s for Lunch

Tales from the Lagoon ~ Episode - Worm or snake, It’s what’s for Lunch

2 male dolphins, Holy Guacamole and Jack,  were in the lagoon with several pelicans enjoying a late lunch.  Holy Guacamole got his silly name because he has a tiny hole in his dorsal fin.  Jack got his name from watching a caravelle jack fish.

The most popular item on the menu was mullet but a pelican did find a special for the day.

While we were hanging out, one of the pelicans scooped up a worm looking snack, tossed it around in his gullet a few times before sending it down the hatch! A first for me to witness, how about you?

Stay tuned for more tales!
